These gambling games also encourage families to bond.  A game of poker or mahjong on a Sunday afternoon is a great way to spend with the family.  Games like these are fun and loosen communication lines that may be strained among family members.  Americans do value strong family ties, do they not?

Beyond the family, the US gambling industry has also helped keep the economy afloat.  Gambling is a billion-dollar industry and the US government does benefit from it.  Commercial casinos by themselves are always in need of personnel.  They also encourage the blooming of businesses around them, such as hotels, restaurants, specialty shops and the like.  It also invites tourists to come visit the place.  This is not an unfounded idea that does not have proof.  One only has to look at the way the gaming industry contributes to the growth of Las Vegas in Nevada, which is one of the fastest-growing cities in the US.
